Unlock Your Past: ACPL’s Genealogy Center to Offer Free Programs in Celebration of Family History Month

Fort Wayne's world-renowned Allen County Public Library is rolling out a month of free workshops and events this October to help locals connect with their roots.

October is officially Family History Month, and for residents of Fort Wayne, that means an unparalleled opportunity to explore their lineage.

The celebrated Allen County Public Library’s Genealogy Center is once again opening its doors with a full slate of free programs for the entire community.

This isn't just for seasoned historians.

Whether you are just beginning your family tree or have hit a stubborn brick wall in your research, the library has designed events for every skill level.

The ACPL and its genealogy center, known as one of the largest public collections in the entire country, stands as a pillar of local and national historical research.

This October, that resource becomes more accessible than ever.

Highlights from this year’s Family History Month celebration include several compelling presentations.

One notable session is titled “Chasing Ghosts: The Story of the Ghost Army,” delving into a fascinating piece of military history.

Another program, “Transform Your Activity Calendar & Really Stand Out,” offers innovative tools for those in eldercare to foster engagement and reminiscence.

A third workshop, “Making the Records Talk,” aims to teach attendees how to pull incredible stories from dry documents.

Organizers have confirmed that all activities are free and open to the public.

Most events will be held at the iconic main library branch in downtown Fort Wayne, a hub for learning and discovery in our community.

This initiative solidifies Fort Wayne’s reputation as a key destination for genealogical research, attracting visitors from all over the globe to its vast archives.

The month-long celebration is a powerful reminder of the stories that shape our community and the resources available right here in Allen County to uncover them.

For anyone curious about their heritage, this October offers the perfect chance to begin the journey.
