Goalkeeper Jordan Imes stands tall as Purdue Fort Wayne's offense tests the Zips in a hard-fought defensive duel at home. |
The Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team kicked off their new season with a tense, scoreless draw against the Akron Zips on Thursday night.
The match, held right here in Fort Wayne, proved to be a nail-biting defensive duel from the opening whistle.
It was a night defined by near-misses and spectacular saves.
Junior Morgan Gallagher set an aggressive tone early, forcing a save from Akron's keeper just three minutes into the contest.
Akron quickly countered, putting intense pressure on the Mastodons' backline.
Goalkeeper Jordan Imes was a wall for the 'Dons, denying a flurry of shots and continuing the dominant form that saw her record six shutouts last season.
The tension was palpable as both teams traded blows.
Freshman Daisy Moody and veteran Maci Toporcer added shots on goal for Purdue Fort Wayne, keeping the pressure on the visiting Zips.
The second half saw more of the same relentless, back-and-forth action.
Freshman Bella Masse tried to break the deadlock late in the game with two powerful shots, but the Akron keeper held firm.
Ultimately, neither side could find the back of the net, a testament to the stout defensive efforts on display.
The 0-0-1 Mastodons will now hit the road for the rest of August, starting with a trip to face Chicago State on Wednesday. |
