Hey there friends, Coach Tom here with your weekly, non-sports look at what’s happening around our Allen County schools. Lots of great things in the air this week, from theater stages to classroom kindness and it sure does make a retired teacher proud.

Battle of the Bishops...for a cause!
Last week’s friendly showdown between Bishop Dwenger and Bishop Luers turned into a community win. Students collected $1,341.62, 7,000 diapers, and piles of wipes for the Women’s Care Center. Competition sure does bring out the best in folks when it’s for a good cause. 💛
Freshman rides to national glory! 🐴
Hannah Medina, a Luers freshman, is representing her school at the 2025 Grand National and World Championship Morgan Horse Show in Oklahoma and already brought home a Unanimous National Champion title in her very first event! Way to go, Hannah! 🌟
PSATs and teacher appreciation ahead
Homestead reminded sophomores and juniors about PSAT Day (Oct. 7), and the Parent Club began planning a teacher-appreciation meal for conference night later this month. Always good to see Spartans showing love to their staff. 🍎
Community updates and teacher support
At the Oct. 7 board meeting, leaders reviewed a referendum proposal to raise teacher pay and create a new tech career center. Later in the week, the district addressed a medical emergency at Huntertown Elementary, clarifying the employee is recovering and the issue stemmed from a medication change. Thoughtful communication goes a long way. 🤝
Running with Lion heart! 🦁
Leo’s cross-country boys finished 5th overall at the NE8 Conference Meet, edging out sixth place by just one point! Jiler Gould and Jaiden Gould earned First and Second Team All-Conference honors, with teammates setting personal bests across the board. Proud Lions, every one of them! 👏
Burgers for a cause! 🍔
Mark your calendars for Tuesday, Oct. 14 — North Side’s PTSA fundraiser at Red Robin (Glenbrook Mall) runs from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Dine in, take out, or order online and mention North Side PTSA to support school programs. Good food for a great cause! ❤️
Bruins level up at the career fair! 💼
Students from Northrop’s Business & Arts School of Success visited the Keith Bussey School of Business Leadership Career Fair at the University of Saint Francis. They networked with employers, practiced mock interviews, and got a taste of real-world success. Way to show that Bruin pride! 🧡🖤
Follow the yellow brick road! 🌈
Canterbury’s all-school musical “The Wizard of Oz” finished last weekend. It was another successful production.
Senior signs with Indiana Wesleyan
Congrats to Vanessa Rosswurm, who signed this week to play basketball at Indiana Wesleyan University! The Norwell standout helped lead the Knights to a Class 3A state title last season and earned Indiana Junior All-Star honors. 👏
Two one-acts, one great night of drama! 🎭
Concordia invites everyone to their fall one-act plays this Saturday, Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the school auditorium. Tickets available at the door or online at clhscadetsdrama.ludus.com. Great stories, great students — don’t miss it! 🌟
A little faith, trust, and pixie dust! 🧚♀️
Mattie Smeltzer stars as the sassy Tinkerbell in Blackhawk Christian Theatre’s “Peter Pan and Wendy” by Laura Gunderson. Shows run Oct. 16–18 at 7 p.m., and tickets are linked in their post. Beautiful photos by Bekah Guntlen capture all the magic! 💫
That’s the roundup for this week: a full plate of giving, learning, and creative energy across Allen County. Next week, I’ll keep my eyes peeled for more classroom highlights and community stories.
Until then, keep cheering on our students, teachers, and all the folks who make our schools special. See you next Friday! 👋
