United Way Of Allen County Prepares for Massive Day of Caring Event

Over 1,400 volunteers will gather at Parkview Field before tackling more than 60 community service projects, recognizing local heroes and corporate partners in a massive show of community spirit.

A wave of community action is set to sweep across Allen County as the United Way of Allen County announces its annual Day of Caring.

The massive volunteer event will kick off with an early breakfast and awards ceremony on Friday, August 22, at Parkview Field in Fort Wayne.

This day represents the single largest mobilization of volunteers for the organization all year.

More than 1,400 individuals are expected to participate, fanning out to over 60 project sites supporting local nonprofits, schools, and residents in need.

The morning celebration will honor several organizations and individuals for their exceptional service and commitment to the community.

Among those being recognized are community leaders Javon Bell, Nick Darrah, and Gina Rhoad.

Corporate and organizational awardees include Asher Agency, Regal Rexnord, 3Rivers Federal Credit Union, Salsa Grille, and Franklin Electric, all noted for their deep community engagement.

Brandi Buck, the Executive Director of United Way of Allen County, described the event as a powerful opportunity to unite thousands of volunteers in support of critical community issues.

The goal is for every volunteer to leave knowing they made a tangible impact.

Volunteers will take on a wide variety of tasks, from painting and landscaping to cleaning and participating in supply drives for local agencies.

Projects are diverse, requiring anywhere from four to eight hours of work and teams ranging from a handful of people to groups as large as 80.

The efforts will touch numerous corners of the county, including nonprofit facilities and private homes identified through partnerships like NeighborLink.

This immense undertaking is made possible by a coalition of dedicated sponsors.

Key supporters include the Indiana Michigan Power Foundation, the City of Fort Wayne, L3Harris, and UAW Local 2209 — GM Fort Wayne Assembly, among others.

The event underscores the deep roots of volunteerism in Fort Wayne and the powerful synergy between nonprofits, local businesses, and dedicated citizens.
