In a world where headlines often focus on tragedy, it’s refreshing to celebrate kindness. Seven extraordinary nurses from Parkview in Fort Wayne were recently honored with the international DAISY Award for going above and beyond in patient care. These nurses didn’t just treat illness; they brought healing through empathy, comfort, and compassion. Their quiet acts of humanity left lasting impressions on families and lives in crisis. Kandy Gay, an emergency room nurse, said, “Initially, all I could do was cry.”

🌟 This Week’s Featured Fur Baby: Fern

Meet Fern, a 3-year-old Rat Terrier with a big personality and an even bigger heart. Adopted from Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control, she quickly stole her family’s hearts with her playful spirit and loving snuggles. Fern is fast, agile, and obsessed with her pink piggy squeaky toy. She’s a little nervous, often startled by her own shadow, but transforms into a fearless protector when the FedEx truck pulls up. Fern walks like a princess, loves car rides (with the windows up), and cuddles tightly between her two parents. She even keeps her cat brother, Buddy, in line. Fern is pure joy.

Interesting Facts

Imagine how much you would have to do if you where a settler?

  • Storing food: Many early settlers would spend the fall months harvesting and preserving food for the winter. This could include drying fruits and vegetables, salting meats, and storing root vegetables in cellars.

  • Winterizing their homes: Early settlers would often make repairs to their homes, such as sealing gaps in windows and doors, insulating walls, and repairing roofs to keep out the cold weather.

  • Stocking up on firewood: To stay warm during the winter months, early settlers would need a good supply of firewood. They would spend the fall months cutting and splitting wood to ensure they had enough to last through the winter.
