Trivia Question❓

What popular amusement park was once located in Fort Wayne, Indiana before shutting down in 1993?

Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

Fort Wayne has unveiled results from its comprehensive 2024 Heat Watch study, illuminating how extreme heat and air quality fluctuate across local neighborhoods.

Conducted in partnership with CAPA Strategies, NIHHIS, and NOAA, the city collected nearly 80,000 temperature and humidity readings in one day, thanks to over 60 volunteers who mapped conditions along 100 square miles during morning, afternoon, and evening hours.

The findings reveal that densely built or historically underinvested districts recorded temperatures up to 8.3°F hotter than greener, tree-lined areas.

City officials will use this data to inform climate resilience planning, such as expanding tree cover, creating targeted cooling measures, and improving urban design—especially in neighborhoods most at risk.

Insights from the study will directly shape Fort Wayne’s Heat Action Plan, guiding long-term public health and infrastructure strategies as temperatures continue to rise.

The shoes you wear each day can affect much more than just your feet, they play a pivotal role in your overall health.

Wearing ill-fitting or unsupportive footwear may lead to persistent pain in your feet, knees, hips, or lower back.

Studies indicate that shoes lacking proper fit or support can worsen conditions such as plantar fasciitis, heel pain, and even contribute to chronic back issues.

Symptoms including tingling, recurring blisters, and noticeable changes in toe shape might point to a problem with your footwear.

If you notice uneven shoe wear or frequent foot discomfort, it’s worth discussing your symptoms with a healthcare professional.

Simple changes, like investing in shoes with ample cushioning, arch support, or considering custom orthotics, can make a significant difference for chronic pain relief.

Choosing the right footwear is an essential step toward staying comfortable and mobile every day.
